By Chrissy

Anxiety Symptoms in Adults Can be Especially Brutal

It is quite normal to feel anxious when you are facing a challenging situation such as a job interview, public speaking session, a tough examination or a blind date. But if these feelings are overwhelming you and affecting your day to day activities in a negative way, you are most probably suffering from an anxiety disorder. There are many types of anxiety disorders. Likewise, anxiety attack symptoms differ according to the type of anxiety attack affecting you at that particular moment. This article provides information on anxiety attack symptoms in adults.

Anxiety is considered the body’s natural response to danger. It is like an automatic alarm that goes on when you feel threatened, and you are in a stressful situation. Anxiety is not a bad thing in moderation. In fact, it can help you become alert and solve problems. The problem arises when anxiety starts overwhelming you on a constant basis. In fact, anxiety disorders are a group of related conditions rather than a single disorder. Hence, the symptoms associated with the condition can vary from person to person. Despite all the different forms, anxiety disorders have one common symptom which is severe fear or worry in a situation where a normal person doesn’t feel threatened.

In addition to the above symptoms, anxiety has many emotional and physical symptoms. Some of the emotional symptoms of anxiety include feeling tense and jumpy, anticipating the worst at all times, feeling like the mind has gone blank, trouble in concentration, feelings of dread, irritability, and always watching for signs of danger. Anxiety is more than just a feeling. It is a product of the body’s fight-or-flight mechanism. Hence, anxiety comes with a wide range of physical symptoms such as sweating, pounding heart, frequent urination or diarrhea, tremors, twitches, muscle tension, shortness of breath, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, and stomach upsets, etc.

These are the symptoms of anxiety attacks in adults. Anxiety disorders are divided into six major types. They are as follows:

  1. Generalized anxiety disorder – if you have a persistent feeling that something bad is going to happen, you are suffering from this condition,
  2. Panic disorder – individuals who suffer from repeated and unexpected panic,
  3. Phobia – an unrealistic fear of a specific activity that presents little or no danger at all,
  4. Social anxiety disorder – if you have a debilitating fear of being humiliated in public, you suffer from this condition,
  5. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – an extreme anxiety disorder that happens at the end of an extreme life-threatening incident,
  6. Obsessive-compulsive disorder attacks (OCD) – unwanted thoughts that seem impossible to stop.

If you suffer from any of the above disorders, you need to consult a professional psychiatrist immediately. It will help you control the condition and get rid of it within no time. Selecting a reputed and experienced psychiatrist is important in this regard. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the major signs and symptoms of anxiety disorder in adults. It will help you identify your condition and take treatment immediately.
