Psychosis from a stimulant is a symptom that will typically come on after an overdose of some sort of psycho-stimulant. However, this is something that can also take place in about one percent of the people who start in on therapy that includes some kind of amphetamine. Two of the drugs that are the most common causes of amphetamine psychosis will include cocaine and substituted amphetamines. These drugs or amphetamines can also cause feelings that would make you believe that you might be having a nervous breakdown. These feelings can be terrifying and can lead to an increase of the actual symptoms… a feeding and growing on itself, if you will. I am hoping that if you understand and recognize the symptoms of withdrawal from or a reaction to the usage of these types of drugs, then you will be able to confront them successfully.
The symptoms that will come on with stimulant psychosis can vary a great deal all depending on the type of drug that was ingested. However, the symptoms of psychosis will usually include delusions, thought disorders and hallucinations. In order to learn more about these symptoms and what a patient can go through, you have to be able to learn more about the drugs themselves and the impact that they have on the brain.
Amphetamine is more of a blanket term for a lot of different substances that can include amphetamine sulphate, methamphetamine, laevoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine. There is generally and insoluble base of oil that is used along with powder and made into tablets or capsules. However, there are also able to be mixed with other adulterants including glucose, sugar and ephedrine.
As a psycho-stimulant, the main purpose of an amphetamine is to boost activity in the nervous system and the brain. The person using them will have an increase in their heart rate and breathing along with a jolt of energy, confidence and alertness. Such amphetamines can be used in a variety of ways, which will include oral consumption, injection, snorting and smoking.
Someone who takes amphetamines can go through short term effects like pupil dilation, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, feelings of power and euphoria, and a reduction of appetite. The long term effects of amphetamine used include restlessness, insomnia, hallucinations, tremors, aggressive and violent behavior, weight loss and paranoid psychosis.
Some patients who have been taking amphetamines for quite some time will also have damage done to their nervous system. Either way, the symptoms that can take place will usually include paranoid delusions that are then followed by hallucinations, aggressive behaviors or even withdrawal from the general population due to delusional beliefs.
It is very important that if you or someone that you care about has become involved with amphetamines that there is proper treatment sought after. Amphetamine psychosis can be a very dangerous and unpredictable condition that should be looked after by a physician or a therapist that is familiar with the patient. During supportive treatment and care, the patient must be monitored for their mood, blood pressure, hydration level and body temperature in order to make sure that they are safe and in no way pose a danger to themselves or others around them.
So in summary, if you do drugs of any kind, then you may be susceptible to having panic attacks or heightened anxiety. In the worst case, this will lead to having a nervous breakdown, because you are no longer tethered to reality. Be careful when you partake of drugs and know that there are ALWAYS consequences.
