Learning how to stop being afraid of is not an easy task. It can be very devastating if you learn to fear something and have a deep-seated phobia. When I was suffering from social anxiety disorder (SAD) this was a very common feeling. I felt extremely self-conscious and the more anxious I became the more scared I got.
The worst part about social anxiety disorder is that the fear seems so deep rooted. I would often think that something bad was going to happen when in reality it didn’t. My fear of eating in front of people, or talking on the phone, or being around large groups of people would actually trigger these panic attacks. Because the fear was so intense I would find myself having heart palpitations, sweating, trembling and experiencing other uncomfortable symptoms.
Learning how to stop being afraid of anything takes a willingness to learn and implement new behaviors. This means that it takes work on your part to change the way that you respond to situations. People that are afraid of crowds always eat before their social gathering. The reason for this is because they believe that they will be judged by other individuals in the crowd. This causes them to avoid being around such individuals and keeps them away from any type of social setting.
People who suffer from SAD have similar fears, but their fear manifests itself differently. In most cases sufferers have the tendency to skip a meal or become very lethargic. This can eventually lead to a physical breakdown as well as other health complications. People who want to stop being afraid of anything must first realize that their current behavior is causing them to experience the fearful thoughts. Once the thought has been recognized it can be changed. I know that I had to overcome my fear of eating in front of others because my thought processes were preventing me from eating at all.
If you want to stop being afraid of anything, it is important that you realize what causes you to experience those fearful thoughts in the first place. If you can figure out where those fears originate from you can then begin to eliminate them. The more that you discover about your own behavior the easier it becomes to change it. The best way to learn what causes your fearful thoughts is to talk to someone who has been through what you are currently going through.
It is possible to stop being afraid of anything if you dedicate yourself to changing the way that you think. I know that this is easier said than done, but it is possible. You can begin your journey to ending your fear of eating by finding other people that eat healthy and talking to them about it. It will take some time but in the end you will feel better for it. After all, isn’t that really what you want?
