Want to know what “Anticipatory Anxiety” is? Here is a great example. Waiting for COVID-19 to be done with and we can get back to our lives. Or here’s another one. Waiting for the shit-show of the vaccinations to finally resolve itself and we can all get vaccines. Trying to just deal with and get thru this anxiety of waiting for Covid-19 to be done with can be all that can do each day!! That in a nutshell is what this condition means. There are a lot of people that will get excited as they are waiting for something big to happen. All you have to do is think back to a time in your childhood when you could not wait for that dish of ice cream after dinner or you wanted to wake up and open your presents on Christmas morning. This anticipation is a natural feeling and the beginning of the expectation that you are going to enjoy some sort of great end result or relief. However, there are some people who suffer from a condition that is known as anticipatory anxiety, which is a bit different than the anticipation that a lot of us know and understand.
As you grow in life, you will start to notice that there will be times when certain events will be disappointing. Once you register the anticipation and the resulting disappointment, it is only natural that there can be some anxiety or fear that will start to come along with any of the events that you anticipate happening. There can be a belief that whatever the promised outcome may be, the end result is going to be something that is potentially disheartening or even devastating. For a lot of people, this sort of anxiety that goes hand in hand with anticipation is more of something just going on in the mind.
A lot of individuals today will spend a lot of time worrying about day to day issues such as relationships, paying the bills, what the next work week is going to be like or what they look like on the outside to other people around them. There are a lot of questions and anticipation that can build up in daily life, so much so that it can start to become a process that is a lot more complex. With everything that you want to have in life, anticipating disaster may seem normal at times. However, there are a lot of people that automatically think that everything will end in some sort of disaster.
Believe it or not, unconscious fears will actually play a major role in the manner in which you go about your day to day activities. If you are a person that has anticipatory anxiety, the chances are very good that you will not even try to succeed at something that poses any sort of obstacle or threat. Your brain can start to get in the way of actual plans that you should be making and it can hold you back from a lot of the things in life that you should be enjoying.
There is nothing worse than suffering from anxiety on a major level. If you or someone that you care about is anxious when it comes to anticipating certain events, it is going to be crucial that you think about getting help. This way, you will be able to work through a lot of the issues that may be holding you back and you can start to live your life to the fullest, completely free of anticipatory anxiety.
